MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Advisor for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepción said Wednesday that the private sector could begin receiving one million doses of India’s COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, next month.
“Adding to our doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna and Novavax, Covaxin from Bharat Biotech will enter the country, boosting our national vaccination program. Having spoken with Ambica and IP Biotech, the Covaxin distributor, the private sector is expected to receive one million doses starting in April, May and June, ”Concepción said in a statement.
However, the price of the Covaxin vaccines to be delivered is still under negotiation, the businessman added.
Earlier this month, Bharat Biotech announced the results of its phase 3 clinical trial for Covaxin involving 25,800 subjects and said it “demonstrated an interim 81% efficacy in preventing COVID-19 in those with no prior infection after of the second dose “. An information session will be held on Thursday as “an opportunity for companies that have not yet secured their doses to learn more about Covaxin and purchase their doses as they deem necessary,” he added. “Covaxin is promising as it shows 81 percent efficacy and was even the vaccine used by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Raches Ella, who heads Bharat Biotech’s business development and promotion unit, is expected to discuss the technical attributes of the vaccine and will join Dr. Noel Miranda, Scientific Advisor to IP Biotech, who can help answer questions from the private sector participants.
