Pelosi, Munuchin failed to reach a deal on the relief bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Manuchin failed to strike at the coronavirus stimulus deal during a more than 90-minute meeting on Wednesday.

The California Democrats said in a statement that the pair would continue discussions as they try to create an elusive fifth relief package that could pass both chambers of Congress. Meanwhile, the House Democrats plan to vote later Wednesday on their 2. 2.2 trillion defense bill – a massive symbolic action by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has already opposed the plan.

The House Speaker said she and Munuchi had “extensive conversations” and “met areas where we sought further clarification.” Entering the talks, Munchin said the White House and Democrats have reached a common ground on issues including direct payments, small business loans and airline assistance. But reports suggest that they still need to resolve disputes over state and local government assistance and accountability for business, among other topics.

Pelosi and Munuchi met face-to-face for the first time since last month, raising hopes that Congress would approve more aid to boost the U.S. economy and health care system ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Both officials expressed more optimism about the possibility of an early deal earlier in the day as Munchu prepared to offer a package of about $ 1.5 trillion to counter the Democrats’ proposal.

Speaking to reporters after leaving the Capitol, the Treasury Secretary said the parties had “made a lot of progress in the last few days,” according to NBC News.

“We still don’t have a contract, but we still have a lot of work to do. And we’ll see where we end up,” he said.

After months of legislators wrestling over how much to spend in the ongoing fight against the virus outbreak, it is unclear if both chambers of Congress can pass and be signed by President Donald Trump. The Republican-led Senate has become more cautious about spending federal dollars on the response as Democratic-House leaders have pushed for a comprehensive relief package.

Weak members of both parties have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.

The House this week unveiled its latest coronavirus stimulus plan, which costs about 1. 1.2 trillion less than the chamber’s 3. 3.4 trillion approved in May. To trim the spirit tag, it cuts back on the large amount of time for which money is allocated.

The package will re-establish advanced federal unemployment insurance of ડ 600 per week by January and send 1,200 direct payments to most Americans. It will set aside more money for a second round of paycheck protection program loans for some small businesses, provide 25 25 billion in aid to airlines and send $ 1 billion in relief to states and municipalities in one year.

The bill would include અને 75 billion for rent and mortgage assistance, Covid-19 testing and contact tracing, as well as 200 200 billion for education.
