Patriots activate David Andrews, elevated reserve in a series of roster moves


The New England Patriots activated center-back David Andrews to open the injured reserve on Saturday.

The Patriots also extended defensive end Tashwan Bower (standard) and defensive tickle Nick Thurman (COVID-19 replacement) outside the practice squad of Danny. Bower and Thurman will automatically return to the practice team on Monday.

Andrews was placed on the injured reserve with a hand injury before week 3. He had to miss three games before becoming active.

Andrews, linebacker Josh Uche and defensive tackle Bau Allen all returned to practice this week and were assigned to compensate for the injured reserve. However, Uche and Allen were not active this week.

Bower, who could enter his Patriots, serves as insurance in case Derek Rivers, who is suspected of a back injury, will not be able to play Week 7 against seven Francisco 49ers in the case.

Thruman, who has been active for the Patriots’ last three games, will have a friction with Carl Davis along with Lawrence Guy, Adam Dum Butler and Byron Quartet, and Allen will still be on the IR, with rotational defensive action.

The Patriots will host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 4:25 ET.
