Papa John’s will hire 10,000 workers to meet the demand for the delivery of coronavirus


Papa John’s is looking to hire 10,000 additional workers in the coming months to meet the increased demand for delivery caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Papa John’s confirmed to FOX Business that the company is seeking to fill the roles of delivery drivers, pizza makers, shift leaders, customer service representatives and managers across the country. In addition, for restaurant workers, the company is also seeking to hire delivery specialists for its Quality Control Centers.

The announcement marks the company’s second wave of hiring since the pandemic took over the nation. Since March, the company has already hired 20,000 team members. The company ended 2019 with approximately 16,500 workers in total, according to the company’s 2019 annual report.

During the first three months of the year, system-wide sales in North America for stores open at least one year had increased 5.3 percent despite the company having to shift operations to contactless delivery and elimination to prevent the spread of the virus. During the next three months ending June 28, system-wide sales for its North American restaurants increased 28 percent.

“As seen in our comparable April sales in North America, after the close of the first quarter, an unprecedented number of families trust Papa John’s,” Papa Johns CEO Rob Lynch said in an earnings report. “We are up to this challenge, recruiting thousands of new team members, safeguarding our supply chain, and carefully managing our finances.”

Papa John’s was not the only major chain that intensified recruitment efforts during the pandemic.

In March, rival Dominos announced plans to hire 10,000 employees across the country in response to an increase in delivery demands amid the public health crisis. Similarly, Pizza Hut also announced in March that it was seeking to fill 30,000 positions across the country.

Starting May 27, Papa John’s announced that almost all of its traditional restaurants in North America remain open and fully operational.
