Starz has ordered a second season of Valley PKatori Hall strip club drama based on her play Pussy Valley
The renewal comes amid strong audience numbers for the drama series. Valley P set a new record in the Starz app for the premiere of the most viewed series at 17% above the previous high. The series has increased its audience on the Starz app by 37% during the first three episodes. To date, P-Valley ranks first among new 2020 premium series with African-American viewers (L + 3, P2 + 262K) and is in the Top 5 of all premium series among African-American households, according to statistics Starz and Nielsen.
“P-Valley has quickly become this summer’s must-see new TV series as critics and audiences alike are captured by the authentic and compelling characters that bring The Pynk to life,” said Christina Davis, president of original programming. “Katori has presented a provocative drama that looks beyond ostentation and into the hearts and minds of these fully realized and compelling characters, exploring them through a feminine gaze that invites the audience to walk in their stilettos. We know that Katori has a lot of amazing stories to tell and a lot for these women in a second season. ”

Created by Hall, who also shows shows, the drama takes place in the Mississippi Delta, where an oasis of sand and glitter is found in a rough patch of human existence where beauty can be hard to find. The fried one hour drama from the south tells the kaleidoscopic story of a small strip club that could and the great characters who come through its doors: the hopeful, the lost, the broken, the ballers, the beautiful and the damned. Cheating music meets film noir in this atmospheric, lyrical series that dares ask what happens when small-town people dream beyond the boundaries of Piggly Wiggly and the pawn shop.
Directed by showrunner Katori Hall, the first season of Valley P it also featured all female directors, including award-winning music video director Karena Evans (Drake: nice for what, SZA: garden), who directed the first episode, as well as Kimberly Peirce (Boys do not Cry), Millicent Shelton (30 Rock), Tamra Davis (Single Ladies), Geeta V. Patel (Superstore), Tasha Smith (Black Lightning), Sydney Freeland (Grey’s Anatomy) and Barbara Brown (Scream Queens).
