‘Ozark’ Revamped for Netflix’s Fourth and Last Big Season – Deadline

The Byrde family saga will soon come to an end after the renewal of Netflix Ozark for a fourth and final extended season.

The drama, starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner, has been revamped for 14 final episodes with the season divided into two parts of seven episodes.

The new season will mark the final chapter in the Byrde family’s journey from suburban Chicago to their criminal endeavor in the Ozarks, particularly after season three ends.

Bateman plays Marty Byrde, a financial adviser turned money-laundering for a Mexican drug cartel, who moves to the Lake of the Ozarks to do the cartel good. Linney plays his wife Wendy, who is involved in a series of schemes, including casino operations in the third season. The cast’s comeback includes Garner, who plays Ruth Langmore, Byrde’s youngest consigliere, Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte Byrde, Skylar Gaertner as Jonah Bryde, Charlie Tahan as Ruth Wyatt Langmore’s cousin, and Lisa Emery as the local distributor for heroine Darlene Snell.

Chris Mundy will return as showrunner, writer and executive producer and will meet Bateman as the creative force behind both parts of the new season.

Produced by MRC Television, it is executed by Bateman, Mundy, Mark Williams, John Shiban, Patrick Markey, and Bill Dubuque. Linney will also be co-executive producer for Season 4.

The show has been a slow hit for Netflix, revealing during its first-quarter financial results that the third season is slated to be seen for just under 30 million in the first four weeks after the March 27 premiere.

The drama, which launched in 2017, has garnered 14 Emmy nominations with two wins, to date, for Jason Bateman for Best Directing for a Drama Series and by Julia Garner for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and a nomination for Best Drama Series. The series also garnered two Golden Globe nominations and six Screen Actors Guild nominations for their performances by Bateman, Garner, and Laura Linney.

Bateman, Linney, Garner and Mundy recently appeared at the Deadline’s Contenders Television live broadcast event. “We are very proud of what we did, but we would be lying if we said we didn’t have a little help from the virus,” Bateman told Deadline. “We had a free moment with the presentation of the program when everyone had nothing to do except its walls and television. Hopefully people liked what they were seeing, “he added, noting that while the captured audience was pleasant, it was the talented group behind the camera and up front that really made a difference.

The streaming platform did not reveal when it plans to cast the latest version of Ozark but it probably won’t be until 2021 at the earliest, depending on how long the COVID-19 production shutdown lasts.

On the renewal, Bateman said: “A season of great size means problems of great size for the Byrdes. I’m excited to end up with a bang (s). “

Mundy added: “We are very pleased that Netflix has recognized the importance of giving Ozark more time to finish the Byrdes saga well It has been a great adventure for all of us, both on-screen and off-screen, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to bring it home in the most satisfying way possible.

Cindy Holland, vice president of original content, said: “Ozark It is an exciting drama that has captivated audiences worldwide and has received wide critical acclaim. We are so grateful to Chris, Jason, Laura, Julia, and the entire cast and crew for all of their tireless dedication to the show and look forward to seeing the Byrdes journey come to an end. “
