Oracle is the latest tech company to move its headquarters from California. On Friday, the company said it was moving its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas.

“Oracle is implementing a more flexible employee workplace policy and has moved its Red Corporation headquarters from Redwood City, California to Austin, Texas. We believe this move is the best position for growth, and our employees know where and how they work. “It simply came to our notice then,” a spokesman for CNBC confirmed.

Bloomberg was the first to report the move.

Most employees can choose the location of their office fees, or continue working part-time or full-time at home, the company said.

“In addition, we will continue to support major Oracle hubs around the world, including those in the United States, including Redwood City, Inn, Santa Monica, Seattle, Denver, Orlando, and Burlington, and we expect to add more. “By applying a more modern approach to work, we expect to further improve the quality of life of our employees and the quality of output.”

Oracle is one of the oldest success stories of Silicon Valley, founded in 1977 in Santa Clara. It moved to its current headquarters in 1989. Many of the buildings on its campus are built in the shape of a squat cylinder, a classic symbol. Designing computer systems for databases, the product on which Oracle built its empire.

The coronavirus epidemic has given many tech companies and leading Silicon Valley excuses to move out of California. Hewlett-Packard Enterprise announced earlier this month that it would relocate its headquarters from St. Jose, California to Houston, Texas. Data analytics software firm Palantir Technologies also moved its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Denver, Colorado earlier this year.

Elon Musk, head of Tesla and SpaceX, also confirmed this week that he has moved to Texas, although his companies still maintain their large operations in California.. Oracle co-founder and chairman Larry Ellison also serves on Tesla’s board. Alison also has a long-standing friendship with Michael Dale, whose computer company was founded and is headquartered in the Austin area.
