LOS ANGELES, July 27 (Reuters) – Oprah Winfrey will return to her talk show format with a new series on Apple TV + in which she will discuss the day’s topics with prominent news producers, Apple Inc and Winfrey announced Monday. .
“The Oprah Conversation” will premiere on July 30. It will feature Winfrey and Ibram X. Kendi, author of best-seller “How To Be an Antiracist,” speaking to whites about racism, Apple and Winfrey said in a statement.
The first episode will be free on Apple TV + and will join two other Winfrey Apple companies: “Oprah Talks COVID-19” and “Oprah’s Book Club.”
The new series, which does not have a fixed schedule, “will explore striking and relevant topics with fascinating thought leaders from around the world,” the statement said.
It occurs during a national trial on systemic racism in the United States that has led to protests across the country for more than two months.
Winfrey, one of the most influential women in the United States, finished her highest-rated daily television show in 2011, where she broke new ground by debating topics ranging from incest to sexual abuse, as well as interviewing presidents and celebrities.
The second episode of “The Oprah Conversation” will air on August 7 and will feature a two-part interview with former soccer player Emmanuel Acho, host of “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man.” The episode will include questions from white and Latino guests.
The episodes will be filmed remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic, but will include public participation.
