Oppo Watch Launches World’s First Wear OS Watch

Since the Wear OS segment lacks any real innovation thanks to a near monopoly on Fossil-branded hardware, it’s great to see new players enter the space. Oppo’s first Wear OS device, the Oppo Watch is now officially going global today with a familiar design but an interesting take on Google’s portable operating system.

The smartwatch has already had a release only in China, but it comes with an “Android-based” operating system. Obviously, that is not the case now that Oppo Watch is launching in Western markets. Along with some Oppo-exclusive features and functions, we’ll also get Google’s standard Wear operating system, which includes Google Fit, Google Pay, Google Assistant, and all the apps you know and love on the Play Store.

Oppo’s first Wear OS smartwatch will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, but it also comes with an Ambiq Micro Apollo3 coprocessor that will help with long life and longevity. The smartwatch only comes with one storage and RAM configuration, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage available, regardless of the model chosen.

However, the Oppo watch comes in two-size configurations. There is a 41mm model that includes a 1.6-inch square AMOLED screen with a resolution of 320×360 pixels at 301ppi. The battery measures 300 mAh, which should last around 24 hours of “normal” use, but it can last up to 14 days when power save mode is activated.
