For the past few weeks, OnePlus has been teasing its next affordable smartphone, Nord. While lower specs would be acceptable on a budget phone, OnePlus Nord isn’t taking that route, and today it has confirmed some of the premium offerings.
In two separate posts this week, OnePlus confirmed a number of specs for the upcoming OnePlus Nord smartphone. That begins with the company’s continued dedication to the pursuit of “softness.” First off, that is accomplished with the 90Hz display. Like the OnePlus 7 series and OnePlus 8, Nord will offer the fastest refresh rate. Beyond that, too, it will have a higher tactile sampling rate at 180Hz compared to 135Hz on previous models.
We introduced our first 90Hz display on the OnePlus 7 Pro last year. Since then, we have been working tirelessly to optimize our 90Hz technology for the best user experience. One of the biggest improvements we’ve made comes from the tactile response rate we can achieve with our 90Hz display technology. The touch sampling rate basically measures how fast a screen responds to each touch, swipe, and scroll gesture per second.
With Nord, we’ve increased its maximum touch sampling rate from 135Hz on OnePlus 7T to 180Hz for specific tasks like gaming, where the timing of each entry can decide whether you ultimately defeat a fearsome boss or succumb to his anger once again.
Under the hood, we’ve known for a while that the Snapdragon 765G will be used. On top of that, the device will come with up to 12GB of RAM. The base model’s RAM allocation is not yet known, but I bet it won’t be a small amount.
In its second post, OnePlus also detailed the OnePlus Nord’s camera specs. On the back, there will be a 48MP main camera with the Sony IMX586 sensor. It’s the same one found on the OnePlus 8 (not the Pro), which we found to be a respectable offer in our review.
When backing up that primary sensor, there is an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. OnePlus also says that there is a macro shooter, but it does not specify the megapixel count. Up front, there’s also a 32MP selfie camera backed by a wide-angle sensor, something we already knew. Thanks to a previous report, we also know that the secondary shooter is 8MP.
OnePlus Nord will be fully revealed on July 21. However, given the current pace, there is literally nothing we don’t know by then.
