One person was killed and two were injured in what became known as the Kentucky Mall shooting

Three people were shot dead Sunday, one fatally, in a Kentucky shopping center, police said.

The shooting happened at 4pm outside a store in the Fayette Mall in Lexington, police said.

Lawrence Weathers, Lexington police chief, said the shooting was not random.

“It is clear from the information we have gathered so far that the individuals involved knew each other,” Weathers told reporters.

“We know at least that the intended target may have been known to the suspect.”

The condition of the other two victims was not immediately known.

People in the mall described the chaos that ensued after gunshots ran out.

“We just heard multiple gunshots,” Alicia Spurlock, who was in the mall with her daughter, told the Lexington Herald Leader.

‘It took me a minute to register what that was. Everyone just started running, ”said the mother.

Destini Engle, a worker with Ann Taylor in the mall, reminds her that she was walking a group of people to her store while crying.

“My heart just dropped, I knew what was happening,” Engle told the newspaper.
