“On the Rocks,” debuted a comedy drama with Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, his first trailer.
The upcoming film, from A24 and Apple TV Plus, is written and directed by Sofia Coppola. Jones plays as Laura, a writer who is suddenly suspected of her busy work schedule and frequent travels of her husband (Marlon Wayans). She and her charming, impulsive father Felix, played by Murray, soon find her husband in the New York City area looking for answers, but the generational differences between Laura and Felix soon become obstacles. The marriage detective work soon becomes a comic adventure in the city, and father and daughter draw closer together, despite one diversion after another.
“I wanted to do something lighter and playful with a lot of heart and sincerity,” Coppola told Entertainment Weekly. ‘Felix is a gentleman of the world who once talked about martinis. The way he looks at women and relationships, he gives advice from his perspective, which is different from how Laura’s husband is, and they try to see it from his point of view. ‘
Coppola and Murray previously collaborated on ‘Lost in Translation’ in 2004 and the Netflix holiday special “A Very Murray Christmas” in 2015. Their most recent film, “The Beguiled” in 2017, earned them the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Film Festival, the second woman to ever win the honor. “On the Rocks” was shot in New York City in 2019, ahead of the widespread production shutdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is set to release in theaters and on Apple TV Plus in October.
