Olympic sprinter Deajah Stevens banned 18 months for missed tests

Olympic sprinter Deajah Stevens was suspended for 18 months on Thursday for missing doping tests and will miss the Tokyo Games.

The Athletics Integrity Unit, which processes track and field cases, said Stevens was not available for three doping tests in 2019 in Oregon and West Hollywood. Three violations within a year can lead to a ban.

The ban on the 25-year-old American runner began on February 17, 2020. It will expire days after the scheduled closing ceremony of the postponed Tokyo Olympics in August 2021.

Stevens cited problems with her phone as the reason sample collection officials were unable to reach her for two of the missed visits, according to the ruling released at her disciplinary hearing.

On one occasion, his phone ran out of battery overnight, and on another occasion he changed the number to avoid harassment by an unknown person, according to the ruling.
