Olympic Olympic gold medalist ski jumper hospitalized after horrific crash at Slovenia event



Olympic Olympic gold medalist ski jumper Daniel-Andre Tande was hospitalized after a horrific crash at an event in Slovenia on Thursday and was medically motivated.

The Norwegian ski star lost control during his jump at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Planica and fell hard on the ice before breaking the skull. Medical personnel examined him for 30 minutes and gave him oxygen. A helicopter then transported him to a hospital in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana.

“We are extremely grateful for the high professional first aid and medical care after the fall. The fall felt dramatic for us and the first diagnosis of Daniel’s injuries is not life threatening, then we are relieved, we have full confidence in the University Clinical Center. In Ljubljana,” Norwegian ski jumping Team leader Klaus Brady told Brathen in a statement.

Dr. Tomislav Mirkovich said Tandy’s “preliminary tests are very promising.”

An update will come sometime on Friday, officials said.

Tande was on the men’s big hill team of gold medals during the 2018 Pyongyang Olympics. He has also won the 2016, 2018 and 2020 World Championships and the 2017 Silver Domestic Gold Medal.

He has seven individual wins and 13 wins during his World Cup career.
