John Blake, who won two Super Bowl rings as coach of the Cowboys defensive line and is best remembered for his stint as head coach in Oklahoma, died at the age of 59.

Barry Switzer, who trained with Blake in both Oklahoma and the Cowboys, told KWTV’s Dean Blevins that Blake suffered a heart attack while out for a walk today.

“I recruited him out of Sand Springs. He played for me and captained for me. He trained me. I was close to John, “Switzer told Eric Bailey about Tulsa world.

Blake was a nasal guard in Oklahoma from 1979 to 1982 and then had a coaching career that saw him work as an assistant in Tulsa, Oklahoma and for the Cowboys before becoming head coach in Oklahoma. The Sooners struggled during a difficult period during Blake’s tenure, and he was 12-22 in his three years as head coach.

After leaving Oklahoma, he had stints as a defensive line coach in the state of Mississippi, Nebraska, and North Carolina. His last job as a coach was training the Bills’ defensive line in 2016.
