Ohio Health Officials Track Coronavirus Outbreak to Put-in-Bay


PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio – Officials from the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department and the Ottawa County Health Department say several people who recently visited bars and restaurants in Put-in-Bay tested positive for the COVID coronavirus -19, reportedly. .

WTVG Channel 13 reports that at least seven people tested positive. Six people are from Lucas County and one from Ottawa County, reports Sandusky Register. All people visited Put-in-Bay between June 17-21.

The Port Clinton News Herald reports that those who tested positive visited the Commodore Hotel, Mr. Ed’s and The Mist. Anyone who has been in those locations from June 17 to 21 is asked to quarantine for 14 days.

“The virus can spread when people are very close to each other and don’t cover their faces,” Nancy Osborn, Ottawa County Health Commissioner, said in a News Herald press release. “The public must understand the importance of personal responsibility and take vital steps to protect themselves and others from unnecessary transmission of COVID-19.”

Osborn tells the Registry that his department has received reports that companies are not using “due diligence” to maintain social distance between clients.

“They have assured us that they will change their practices,” Osborn said. “We are monitoring what their practices are.”

Put-in-Bay Mayor Jessica Dress issued a statement saying that most companies have met state requirements, including employees who wear masks, limit capacity and implement the “highest level of cleanliness standards “

“We ask that visitors help us do the same,” Dress said. “As one of the only Ohio regular summer destinations open for business, we have seen a record number of people on the island and we want to continue serving everyone in the safest way possible.”
