US President Joe Biden arrives with a clear message for migrants who want to come to the United States.
– I can say it clearly. Do not come!
The president’s message comes in an interview with ABC.
– Do not leave your city or your community, he continued.
The influx of migrants along the Mexican border could be the largest in 20 years, with more and more minors arriving alone, according to US Secretary of Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Background: Strong increase in children and youth to the US border.
George Stephanopoulos of ABC asks President Biden if it was a mistake not to anticipate that there would be increased pressure along the border.
– There has been an increase in the last two years, responds Biden.
– This can get worse …, adds Stephanopoulos, who also mentions the president’s promises of a more humane immigration policy.
– Can be. The idea that Joe Biden has said “come” because I heard that they will come because they know that I am a “good guy” is not the reason they come, Biden continued.
Widespread poverty, violence and corruption are causing more and more people to leave Central America and Mexico in hopes of a better life in the United States, and recently two hurricanes have exacerbated the situation for many in these countries.
Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki described the situation along the border as “a big problem” but did not want to use the word “crisis,” writes CNN.
More than 100,000
In February, more than 100,000 migrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador attempted to cross the border, a 28 percent increase from the previous month.
The vast majority of arriving adults are sent back, while unaccompanied minors can stay. In February alone, about 9,500 unaccompanied minors arrived, the youngest up to six years of age, according to the Secretary of Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas.

US authorities have set up a center to quickly hand over unaccompanied minors to the Ministry of Health and Care Services (HHS), which is trying to find a reception center where they can be placed, Mayorkas says.
Children are kept in what are described as prison-like detention centers built for adults.
– Some of the boys said there were so many people that they had to sleep on the floor, lawyer Neha Desai told CBS.
– It is deeply disturbing to see young children on the premises for several days, where they are not allowed to shower, call their families or see the sunlight, he continued.
The U.S. Border Patrol CPB will not comment on Desai’s remarks. However, in an earlier interview, Acting Director Troy Miller said that children have access to food, snacks and medical care. He also claims that they can shower every 48 hours.
The work is very demanding as several hundred minors now arrive every day and receptions are packed, according to Security Minister Mayorkas.
One of the first things Joe Biden did after assuming the presidency was to cancel the work on the so-called wall against Mexico that his predecessor Donald Trump longed for. It also opened the door to grant citizenship to nearly 11 million people who currently do not have a valid residence in the United States.

Accuse biden
Republicans believe that Biden is due to the influx of immigrants who are now arriving at the border and claim that the president has created “a crisis.”
– We are seeing an increase in children crossing the border alone. Why? Joe Biden has promised amnesty, has Texas Republican politician Ted Cruz written on Twitter.
Mayorka recalls that both in 2014 and 2019 there was a similar influx of migrants, and says that the United States has a moral responsibility to receive children who arrive alone.
– These are vulnerable children, and we have ended the practice of expelling them from the previous administration, he says.
Mayorkas also claims that Trump’s aid cuts to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras have led more and more people to head north.
