Champions League, Borussia Dortmund | Haaland scoring when Borussia Dortmund lost to Lazio in the opening match of the Champions League

Disappointing Champions League opening for Borussia Dortmund.

DORTMUND LAZIO-BORUSSIA 3-1

It was a rough night for Erling Braut Haaland and Borussia Dortmund in the first Champions League game of the season. Lazio got too strong and eventually won 3-1 in Rome.

In the away game, Dortmund got off to the worst possible start when former Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile put the Italians ahead in the sixth minute.

Immobile took advantage of a weakness in the visiting defense and was suddenly left alone with goalkeeper Marcel Hitz. From a short distance, the Italian was ruthless.

– It is wonderfully stylish by Immobile. Finish a thousandth before the goalkeeper expects it. It’s part of their brand and it seems so easy, but go out there and give it a try. 99 out of 100 forwards would perhaps spend an extra 100th and missed that opportunity, summed up Viasport expert Lars Tjærnås on the super forward’s score.

– I do not remember seeing them so played

Dortmund didn’t appear to be completely screwed up from the start in the Rome settlement. There was also an expert commentator that Tjærnås noticed at the start of the first Champions League game of the season.

– I do not remember seeing them so contested in so many rooms at the same time, since they have become the first room. They just don’t find out from a press height, Tjærnås commented on the start of the Germans’ game.

The pain was also worse after a corner kick in the 23rd minute. The home team doubled the lead after the ball went in and over Haaland’s head at the first post. Felipe stunned the ball hard on the field, through goalkeeper Hitz and into the net.

After the score of 2-0, the Germans tried to raise their highest game on the field. Thomas Meunier had a chance to turn things around, outplaying the defenders and firing a shot that the keeper missed. Haaland’s post was nearly finished, but the Belgian missed in an almost miraculous way.

It was also the closest the visiting team got before the break.

– I have hardly seen Dortmund so consistently behind for as long a period as the first just 40 minutes of the first half have been. It is one thing that they have a bad transfer, but we must also praise Lazio, who had a fantastic first half, said Tjærnås just before the break.

Then Haaland had just reached his first finish of the night with a shot that was blocked to the corner.

Dortmund coach Lucien Favre was far from happy after the game.

– That was not right. It really wasn’t good. We gave them gift packages and goals, he tells Viasat after the game.

User ratings for Haaland

The Norwegian had a good chance shortly after the break. Haaland seized on a long play and set the pace against the Lazio defense. The forward pushed in on the field and ended, unfortunately for the guests, directly on goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

The 19-year-old really woke up to life in the second round. 20 minutes before the end, substitute Gio Reyna hit a precise post with Haaland’s left foot.

The forward threw the ball into the net on the first touch.

– For a finisher. He sweeps it up, said Roar Stokke in the commentary position.

– It makes difficult things seem so simple. Accurate, relentless and different, Tjærnås continued.

Dortmund saw an opportunity to score points from Italy, but just five minutes later Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro set the final score at 3-1 after an Immobile pass.

So it was a difficult start to the Champions League for Haaland and the rest of the Dortmund team.
