On May 9 the football season begins in the Faroe Islands. So Norwegian viewers can finally watch live football again.

TV 2 sports editor Vegard Jansen Hagen confirms on Friday night that the channel has bought the rights to the Faroese league.

– In one week we have secured the rights of the Champions League and Faroese football. It will be very nice, says Hagen.

Around 50,000 people live in the archipelago located west of Bergen. Ten days ago, schools were opened in the country.

– It is the first league in Europe to start within a responsible framework, so we do not include Belarus. The Faroe Islands have battled the crown and used test equipment from the fishing industry. They will start responsibly and responsibly on May 9, and then I think it would be fun to show that soccer starts again. It is not the Champions League, but just watching football live is a sign of hope.

Must use Premier League profiles

The sports publisher hopes the league can be big business for viewers who are hungry for live soccer.

“This tells us a little bit about what special moment we live in. We’ve shipped everything from eSports, virtual bike rides, and online chess, but only live soccer has been a huge failure for many,” says Hagen.

Initially, the channel will broadcast the first 12 rounds of the series. The garden ensures that they will make a good package around the matches.

– We bet when we have it for the first time. It will be a good package with our Premier League and Champions League profiles. There will be studio broadcasts with good intermediaries, he says.

– Faroese football will probably not be a national sport, but an offer for those who know more about what is missing.

He bought the rights to the Champions League

Earlier this week, it was also announced that TV 2 had secured the rights to show the Champions League starting in 2021.

The news came just a few months after it was announced that the channel is losing the 2022/23 season Premier League rights to team Nent.

– It is very cute. It is a great comeback after losing Premier League rights. We fight and take the other great soccer ball well. It’s awesome on TV 2, said commentator Øyvind Alsaker.
