A man was arrested in Copenhagen on Thursday and charged with attempted terrorism. The man rejects the punishment, says his defender.
A man was arrested in Copenhagen on Thursday by the capital’s police and Danish security police PET.
The man is accused of attempted terrorism and, according to the Copenhagen police, has attempted, inter alia, to obtain firearms and ammunition.
At a court hearing in Frederiksberg on Friday, the 23-year-old denied the punishment, his advocate Steffen Thorborg says, according to Politiken.
According to the indictment, the suspect failed because he was arrested.
The doors during the hearing are kept closed.
Think that the man acted alone
Police said after carrying out a coordinated police action on Thursday at an unknown location in Copenhagen, where the man was arrested.
“We have no doubt that PET’s efforts have meant that we have prevented a terrorist attack,” said Jørgen Bergen Skov, chief of police for the Copenhagen police during a press conference.

In this way, terrorist attacks were avoided at the last minute.
“There is reason to believe that the man has acted alone, and appears to be motivated by radical Islamism,” said Flemming Drejer, PET’s chief operating officer.
PET does not rule out that the accused has planned more terrorist acts. The man is accused of the Danish terror clause.
Police do not want to reveal what was the target of the attack or planned attacks.
The man will be arrested on Monday.

About 20 arrested in an anti-terror campaign in Denmark
In December 2019, Danish police attacked several people in various parts of the country in a comprehensive anti-terror campaign.
According to police, Thursday’s arrest is unrelated to that case.
According to Ekstra Bladet, Danish Minister of Justice Nick Hekkerup stated that the terrorist would possibly shoot civilians and the police.
“We are of the opinion that he is inspired by Islamism and that he would commit a terrorist attack, possibly shoot people and shoot the police,” Hekkerup said in an interview with Danish TV 2 on Thursday afternoon.
