The postponement of the Tokyo Olympics presented unexpected challenges for the athletic profile.

Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal (29) is motivated like few others, but admits she felt a bit of a bad mood after the Olympic decision.

On March 24 the decision came that the Tokyo Summer Olympics moved to next summer. The crown epidemic meant that the organizer and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had no choice but to play a year in advance.

– As soon as the Olympic decision came, it was fine, but after Easter, 14 days later, I felt a kind of bad mood that had not been there before. I didn’t quite understand what was wrong, but you might go there without a plan and you don’t know what the next goal is.

– You can say that sport is not important in this, but at the same time it is my life, my daily life and my work. It’s like when someone else is not allowed to go to work and not be in their social circle and with their colleagues, Grøvdal told NTB during a press conference in Bislett last week.

Grøvdal has a long life as a long distance runner and knows well that life is not the usual of the more social variant either. The corona virus does not make it easier.

– You become more isolated, and life as a top athlete and long distance runner is quite lonely at first. I felt it for a while. I felt so lonely. It is clear that he is being affected.

without pain

The 29-year-old, originally from the Isfjord in the municipality of Rauma in Møre og Romsdal, says that lately she has been training 90 percent alone. A scheduled training stay in Flagstaff, USA. UU., It was filed.

– There have been some trips with those that I normally train with, but everything is a little less normal than normal.

– What does it mean for motivation that the normal athletics season seems to be so minimized?

– It has not changed motivationally. It’s an Olympiad next year and you can’t sit on the couch thinking you’re going to have a year off. It is important to continue the good work. I felt very ready for the Olympics after a good fall and winter. It has been really painless since the European Championship in December, and I was really ready to have a good year. It was correctly en route. I have to feel like I have another year to do it.

As a distance runner, you also know that it is generally always something you can participate in. It has helped him keep his feet moving.

– Maybe I’ve been a little gullible. For us runners, there are so many things we can participate in, a street race, a 5-kilometer race, a 10-kilometer race, there are so many races you can be in shape for. It’s getting worse now I realize. Anyway, it is wise for me to be in shape, because there will always be something. It is always a record that can be taken. There is always something to do. It is different for an artist like Karsten Warholm who runs the 400 meter hurdles. So there are not so many opportunities.

happy

Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal was one of the people Steinar Hoen first contacted when she had the idea to replace the canceled Bislett Games with the new Impossible Games. The day after receiving the first phone, he sent a message to Hoen where he wrote “I was happy now, Steinar!”

Grøvdal was not a pain to pray. She agreed to vote at the convention on June 11, and the goal is also unclear. Completely alone and with the help of a digital hare, the objective is to exceed the record of Grete Waitz in Norway of 3000 meters of surface.

– Just getting a date about things had something to do with motivation. I was very pleased when Steinar called and confirmed that all approvals were in order. When the idea came up, I thought it was too good to be true that he did it, but he did it. Impossible Games is a bright spot. Give motivation. It will be nice to appreciate that you can compete and be fit.

Grøvdal, who turns 30 just three days after the Impossible Games, believes he will be great in Bislett at one of the most alternative events ever organized. Competition must strictly comply with infection control regulations.

– Sport is important for many people, for children and young people, for those of us who do the best sports and for all who watch. Sports create unity among people in general. So I was very happy that this opportunity appeared.
