Norseman won in the fall, Norway’s toughest triathlon race. Then he also became world champion in extreme triathlon.
Extreme is 28 years old in many ways, because he first chose to pursue a five-year degree in mechanical engineering, before beginning to fully invest in sports.
Most youth who combine education and sport go “all” after the compulsory school years are over. Study progression usually slows down initially because there is little time to read two to three workouts per day, rest, travel, and competition. Often, studies gradually receive higher priority throughout the course of the study, when athletes lose motivation, progress, or desire.
– My story is the opposite. After high school, I spent a year practicing cross-country skiing, before giving up and then going to the military. So I started studying in Trondheim. I was not serious about sports at the moment, says Tungesvik.
A random sample
The student joined an unassuming triathlon championship organized by the NTNU Sports Club.
– I was the only one who posed without a wetsuit on a cold autumn afternoon in Trondheim. It was a brutal start to this competition.
Still, he was shot. In the next few years he graduated from triathlons, it got more fun and fun, the results started to come.
When he won the age-appropriate World Cup in Hawaii in 2016, at Ironman himself, there was something he understood:
– Yes, I realized that I had something to do in this sport.
He had completed all three exercises in 9 hours and 27 minutes.
