The Institute of Public Health confirms to VG that they believe the full football activity can start again, as long as the contingency plan of the Norwegian Football Association is followed. Culture Minister Abid Raja (V) and the government are still in custody.
On Monday, NFF requested permission to begin contact training for the best Norwegian football starting May 10, with the goal that the first round of the series be played on June 15. The government has said they will release new information on May 7.
Elite Director Lise Klaveness says FHI’s answer is that the plan makes it sound like full contact sports.

– Why do you say yes to NFF?
– I have considered the scheme you have outlined on a contagious professional basis. I said it looks good. Then there is also the social here, about what is correct to open things at different times. This is decided on the government team, Berg tells VG.
– So you at FHI have said that it will be justifiable to play soccer while following the NFF plan?
– The answer to that is yes. That is a fairly strict plan. At the same time, things must be seen in context, and you shouldn’t say that.
– So, simply said that it is justifiable to play football with these plans because the risk of infection will be low enough as long as you follow them?
– yes Can you say that. Then I realize that you probably want more details, but it may come later depending on what is decided, says the FHI superior.

The priority government
The Minister of Culture and Gender Equality, Abid Raja, previously said that he relies on the advice of the health authorities. However, Bjørn Guldvog, who is director of the Health Directorate, says they have been told that the reopening of soccer is a priority issue that the government will address.
– Now it is so there are many different activities that want to start, and then it is a priority that must be done. He wants the government to comply. Next week, clarifications will be made on this, Guldvog tells VG.

– How will the government maintain it?
– It will be a priority here that is not only related to health. This has to do with broader social consequences. I have great respect for that and I think it is the right way to do it. So that we have the best priorities for society.
– From what you know now, will opening up to full contact sports be justified as you see it?
– I will not comment on this at this time, as this is something that the government will clarify.

– It has been all along
In a VG case released Wednesday afternoon, Raja stated, among other things, after Aps Trond Giske had asked him to “do the job”:
– It is very surprising whether the Labor Party should put the Elite series ahead of responsible and safe infection control treatment.
Later on Wednesday, VG confronted the Minister of Culture with the statements of the Director of the Directorate of Health, that the government itself will make the decision on when football can start.
– That’s the way it has been all along. When we get to top football, we should open up and feel like we’ve gained control, and we can do it in a controlled way, given that we’re in control of the pandemic, Raja says now.

– Could it be that even if health authorities say it’s okay with full contact sports, you in government will prioritize it?
– When many jobs are closed in Norway, I think it would be irresponsible if we do not consider equality considerations when opening. We have to have proper case management, we have to do it gradually, and we have to think about contagion when we open, Raja says.
– And, of course, we will take care of the best football. Your time will come. I don’t want to keep them, but we have to do it for the good of our health and for the control of the pandemic.
– Do you understand that some people in sport may react to the fact that you have said that you want to rely completely on the health authorities, but that now there seems to be a change?
– There is no change. It has always been the case that we rely on the advice of health professionals, and then it is the government as a joint body that makes this decision. You can’t think about soccer, says Raja.
NFF reaction
Elite director Lise Klaveness at the NFF says she has worked intensively with both the Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Sports Association (NIF) to ensure the quality of the plan for the activity to start again.
– I hope that the contagious evaluation of the plans will carry much weight when the government makes a decision on May 7. We have such a good back cover that this is not an experiment with life and health. We have spent a lot of time creating these frames, which other sports can also use. That the government sees this as a whole is understandable. These are attempts to move forward as an important and responsible social actor. I think it is very important to move forward on this matter, ”Klaveness tells VG.
– It is not about elitism or the fact that football must take precedence over anything, but that we have the opportunity to create a professional framework favorable to defense and that we are facing a season in which the future of football Norwegian is at stake if we don’t get it going. We have had a very good and close collaboration with the Norwegian Sports Federation, and we are totally united in the fact that the best football is in a good position to take the next safe step towards a more standardized sports activity ”, says Lise Klaveness.
