Details of the operation and the arrests in Jordan are unclear so far. Some messages that were shared online on Saturday were that King Abdullah II’s half brother, Prince Hamzah, had been arrested and that it was an attempted coup.

The Jordanian army chief of staff, Yousef Huneiti, denies that the prince has been arrested.

However, it says that Prince Hamzah has been asked to “stop some movements and activities that have been used to affect the security and stability of Jordan.”

Huneiti adds that an investigation is underway and the results will be published “transparently and clearly.”

– No one is above the law and Jordan’s security and stability are the top priority.she tells the official Petra news agency.

The Chief of Staff’s statements come after previous reports of arrests in the country that have drawn attention.

Basem Ibrahim Awadallah, who was chief of staff in 2007 and 2008, is among those arrested. Awadallah has also been Minister of Planning and Finance and is said to have had close ties with the country’s King Abdullah II.

The Petra news agency also reports that Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, a former royal envoy to Saudi Arabia, has been arrested.

What is suspected is unknown so far. So far, no information has been received on who the other detainees are.

Jordan has long been an important ally of Western countries and a stable island in a troubled region. The country borders Israel, Palestine, Syria, and Iraq.
