Coronavirus infection control expert: – – We must get tested forever

– We have to screen people with signs of covid-19 disease forever, Osterholm says in a question about the corona situation on the Axios website, writes CNN.

– The virus does not disappear in everyone. Remember that there are billions of people in low-income countries, some in middle-income countries, who will never have access to a corona vaccine. In these countries, we will also see the spread of virus variants, he says.

Osterholm adds that the tests will also be useful in mapping the effectiveness of vaccines and seeing where there is a need for so-called “booster doses,” as well as reload vaccines.

Those who have already been vaccinated after a while may need such a dose.

Effective infection detection

Norway has long used the TISK (testing, isolation, monitoring and quarantine) strategy as an important weapon in the fight against coronavirus. Strategy is considered very important for effective infection detection in society.

«In addition to all current advice, a more intensive TISK strategy should be considered when tracking close contacts in outbreaks, regardless of virus variant.»Writes the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) on its website.

Hardened TISK means more extensive testing and quarantines, and more emphasis on good quarantine and isolation implementation.

But for the strategy to be successful, analytical laboratory capacity is needed, a capacity that is now beginning to explode in Norway, assistant health director Espen Nakstad said on a Dagbladet TV broadcast on Wednesday.

– That work has never been more extensive than it is now and there are limits to the number of people who have time to call and track the infection. There is clearly a limit to this. It’s hard to say exactly where it’s going, but municipalities report that they are now approaching absolute maximum capacity, he said.

If TISK fails, it is no longer possible to keep outbreaks under control by isolating infected people, tracing close contacts and quarantining them, and having enough people tested. The result is the uncontrolled and hidden spread of the infection.

Last week, Nakstad said the strategy was approaching breaking point in the capital. Since then, the British mutant, responsible for the vast majority of infections in Oslo, has spread to new areas of eastern Norway. The municipalities of Haugalandet, as well as Bodø and Salten, have also battled aggressive mutant outbreaks.

– The tendency to infection in the last seven days continues to increase. In eastern Norway, some municipalities have had infection rates flattening, others still have an increase, Nakstad told Dagbladet TV on Wednesday.
