Enter curfew after a wild party

The curfew applies from 20 to 06 and takes effect immediately. Authorities say thousands of carefree students have flocked to Miami Beach, where they have vandalized restaurants, fought in the streets and gathered in large crowds without regard for infection control rules.

– They are crowds of several thousand. That’s more than we can handle, City Manager Raúl Aguila tells the Miami Herald.

Party students are blamed for the curfew, which will apply to both residents and tourists in the popular South Beach destination.

It is not yet known how long the curfew will last, but Águila warns that it will not end before April 12. The United States has already imposed a national curfew at midnight as a result of the corona pandemic.

Access to the area will be denied to both pedestrians and motorists starting at 8 pm and all stores must close.

Strong warning

The announcement comes shortly after the reputed Clevelander South Beach bar announced that it would suspend all food and alcohol services until March 24, as a result of major street fights in the area. The bar and chairs at the neighboring restaurant were broken during one of the fights.

Local authorities also ban alcohol on beaches and introduce a liquor ban at 10 p.m. A strong warning was also sent to tourists in Miami Beach by text message:

– Responsible vacation or being arrested, was the clear message from the authorities.

Tourists are encouraged to vacation responsibly. The alternative is to be arrested.

– Spring break in Miami Beach can be a proud tradition, but only if you intend to follow the rules. Otherwise, you can just as easily stay home and save on legal costs, the Associated Press message further states.

Lose big

Florida relies heavily on the tourism industry, which is the state’s main source of income. In 2018, Florida spent just over NOK 800 billion on tourism, and the corona pandemic has created huge challenges.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has tried to support businesses through mild coronary restrictions and Florida, unlike many other states, has no sanctions or limits for event attendees.
