Thierry Henry uses big words when describing Erling Braut Haaland.
Most of the superlatives to describe Erling Braut Haaland’s performance for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League are long overdue.
However, when the words come from a former senior like Thierry Henry, they are worth listening to.
– You can pick and choose
Indeed, the former Arsenal player admires the achievements of the Norwegian star forward.
“First of all, the guy has people looking for him, so I don’t have to tell him what to do in his career,” says Henry in the Sky Sports studio, before giving the following tribute:
– He’s already at the top, at that age. You can go anywhere and make things happen for anyone. Now he can pick and choose, and I think he has the quality to succeed, says Henry.
– What is this?
Haaland’s scoring stats appear on the screen as the Frenchman speaks, and even though he’s seen it before, Henry can hardly believe his eyes.
– 14 games and 20 goals in the Champions League … what is this? It just isn’t normal. What I like about him is that he is so big and strong. You don’t want to be an advocate and meet him.
– He does not care about anything other than the goal. Other players roam the wings: he will be in front of the net. Between the bars, you know it’s toxic. He believes in himself a lot and I like that. There’s a bit of “arrogance” in him, if I can use that word, says Henry, who scored 175 goals in 258 Premier League games for Arsenal.
The Frenchman is not the first to pay tribute to Haaland this week. On Monday, Rio Ferdinand stated that Manchester United must do everything possible to secure the Norwegian.
Benzema: – You must continue working for your team
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema also commented on Haaland on Monday. At a press conference prior to the Spanish meeting with Atalanta in the Champions League, the Frenchman was asked about Haaland, who has been designated as a possible replacement for Benzema.
– He doesn’t play for this club. I’ve been here for many years and every month there is talk of strikers and people who can score goals. He is young and does a lot for his team. He must keep working for his team, and if he ever gets the chance, we’ll see about it, says Benzema according to AS.
Borussia Dortmund, well helped by Erling Braut Haaland, reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League, after a victory against Sevilla. Real Madrid will play their second quarter-final against Atalanta on Tuesday, and they have a good starting point after the 1-0 victory in Bergamo.
