Neither Manchester United nor West Ham erupted in Sunday night’s game, but the hosts were able to cheer for victory after Craig Dawson headed the ball into his own goal early in the second half.

– Sometimes you’re lucky. Seeing a lucky goal come in is nice, Scott McTominay, who had a little touch on the ball before Dawson, tells Sky Sports after the game.

– They just told me it was an end in itself. I thought it was McTominay who scored. Dead balls are something we’ve been very good at this year, but it just wasn’t our night, West Ham manager David Moyes tells Sky Sports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær was more satisfied with the match.

– We know West Ham are struggling to get into the top four so it was an important result and we kept a clean sheet, says Solskjær.

– As expected, they (West Ham) will always make it difficult for you. We could have been more comfortable towards the end as we had a couple of good chances to figure it out. We like to make it difficult for ourselves, says Solskjær in an interview with Sky Sports.

West Ham tried to make a final sprint but missed the biggest chances and had to go home to London with no points.

With a win, they would have had as many points as Chelsea in fourth place, earning them a place in the Champions League next season, with one game less played, but it is Manchester United who now secures their position among the top four.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men are now in second place and are nine points behind West Ham with one most played game. Manchester United have kept a clean sheet in their last four Premier League games and were once again very solid defensively in Sunday’s game.

West Ham has been in brilliant shape since the New Year and had won 25 points in the last 11 Premier League games before tonight’s meeting with Manchester United.

However, Old Trafford has never been a stadium where David Moyes has done well. Moyes was fired after a short year in the manager’s chair at Old Trafford in 2014 and as the visiting team’s coach, Moyes had ten losses and four draws in 14 attempts at Manchester United’s home before tonight’s game.

The poor statistics continued for Moyes with another loss on Sunday after an own goal by Craig Dawson decided the game. Thus, Moyes has not won against Manchester United in seven attempts since he was fired from the Manchester club.

Mason Greenwood had several good scoring opportunities for the home team, but had to settle for two hits off the post, one in each inning.
