The English referee is said to have been subjected to what he perceived as serious incitement from Ipswich player Alan Judge.
It was in the final minutes of the League One match between Ipswich and Northampton in February that referee Darren Drysdale lost his temper.
Ipswich player Alan Judge ran over inside the penalty area and crashed into Drysdale when he was given a free kick instead of a penalty kick.
The judge went against Drysdale and appealed the decision, but stopped half a meter from the referee. Then Drysdale took a step towards the Ipswich player and appeared to put his forehead against the Ipswich player’s forehead.
Players from both teams stepped between the two to defuse the situation, before Drysdale awarded Judge a yellow card.

– A tirade of agitation
On Thursday, the Daily Mail wrote that Judge Drysdale had finished serving his sentence on Wednesday. The English Football Association confirms that the referee has been suspended from the incident until March 10. He has not refereed matches during this period.
Drysdale has also been warned that it will be hit hard if he shows similar behavior on the field in the future.
At the same time, it has also been known what caused the referee to turn on so violently towards the end of the match. During a hearing, Drysdale explained the following:
– In my opinion, Alan Judge exaggerates his fall because he is desperate for a penalty. I thought about the situation for a few seconds, before deciding to blow the whistle and give Judge a yellow card for filming, Drysdale is said to have explained.

– While blowing the whistle, Alan Judge shouted aggressively, loudly, from a few meters away: “It’s a punishment, deceiving the skull! I reacted in a way that I rarely do because I considered it an offensive comment. I walked towards Judge, who continued his tirade of agitation, while he, as far as I could tell, waved his finger aggressively at my face. He shouted again, “You’re a bloody cheater,” the judge is said to have explained at the hearing.

Therefore, he inclined his head towards the Ipswich player, but points out that he never came into contact with Alan Judge’s forehead.
After the February game, there were strong reactions to the referee’s behavior. Therefore, he chose to leave with an apology, even though he reacted to what he perceived as strong anger.
– I fully understand that it is important that the referees remain calm throughout the game and always treat the players professionally. “I’m sorry I didn’t and I can only apologize to Alan and Ipswich Town,” Drysdale told Sky Sports.

Also during the hearing with the English Football Association, Drysdale admits that what he did does not belong on a football field and repeats the apology.
– I’ve never seen anything like it
The FA immediately launched an investigation into the incident after the game. Ipswich manager Paul Lambert was quick to point out that what happened should have consequences for the referee.
– I think the apology is very weak. It’s easy to apologize later. What happened was incredible. “I’ve never seen a referee face a player,” Lambert told Sky Sports after the game.

– He had to be pushed aside by Northampton players, and at the time he was out of control. What would have happened to Alan Judge if he had done that to the referee? He had been banned for between six months and a year and he received a huge fine, Lambert continued.
The match between Ipswich and Northampton at Portman Road ended 0-0.
