– I experience the situation as degrading.
Nannestad Mayor Hans Thue (Labor Party) told Dagbladet after it became clear late Friday that several people had given a false address in connection with a visit to the Evo Fitness gym in the municipality.
It was Eidsvoll Ullensaker Blad who first mentioned the case.
The news was revealed in connection with the fact that it became clear earlier on Friday that a person who had trained in the gym had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The municipality writes on its website that it is a young adult who has tested positive, and that he has trained with Evo Nannestad in the infectious phases 5, 6 and 7 of March. and in this sense, 120 people have been asked to prove themselves.
– During the monitoring of the infection, it was learned that several of those who have visited the center live in Ullensaker, Lørenskog and Oslo, continues the mayor.
This is contrary to Nannestad’s infection control measures, which only grant residents living in the municipality permission to train in the town’s gymnasiums.
Thus, in line with the Infection Control Law, the municipal chief has opted to urgently close the gym.
– There are many bad things during the day, but when this was discovered we had no other choice, says Thue.
Not deserved
In addition, the mayor says that throughout the pandemic they have had a good collaboration with Evo.
– This is not something that the gym or the inhabitants of Nannestad have deserved. It is devastating for all parties and I fully understand those who are now reacting to the decision. Aside from exercising, there isn’t much else to do these days besides sitting at home and eating chips.
At the same time, he says that Evo does not have access to any population register and that way he has not had the opportunity to do anything other than trust his visitors.
– So it’s a shame that someone chooses to break the regulations.
Chronology: a year with a crown
Three options
It is still unknown how long the gym will be closed. Thue says the matter will be considered when the presidency meets next Wednesday.
– We have three options to choose from. One is to reopen the center, the other is to also close the other gym in the municipality, while the last is to relate to the decision we have made today. We will go back to the alternative we chose to use, the mayor tells Dagbladet.
It also says that they have notified the other fitness center about unauthorized fitness tourists.
– We have asked you to be more attentive in the future. If we discover the same trends at this center, we only have one drug to use. This is the same thing we have decided to do today in Evo.
Finally, Thue says that inspections were recently carried out at both gyms and that the municipality did not discover any breaches of infection control regulations.
– We have a common interest in providing the residents of the municipality with the best possible offer during the pandemic. So it is a shame that we have to intervene in this way.
Collaborate well
Evo Fitness CEO Morten Hellevang tells Dagbladet that long before the municipal chief’s decision on Friday there has been no opportunity to train at the center, unless members have chosen Nannestad as their primary center.
– The only theoretical possibility is then that the members have registered with a false address. We have done member control checks, but we do not have police authority so there is a limit to what we can do.
– What do you think of the decision that was made tonight?
– I’m not sure how the municipality can know that the members do not live in Nannestad, but we cooperate well with the municipality and comply with the decision. What is a shame is that around 1000 members are now excluded from the center even though they have done nothing wrong.
