On Wednesday night, several Red Cross teams participated in a large-scale search operation, after a signal was sent earlier in the night from an emergency beacon transmitter in the Lågaros area of Hardangervidda.
The woman was found after about six hours of searching.
– These are extremely demanding conditions. Crews report virtually no visibility in the area, Southeastern Trond Police District Operations Manager Egil Groth tells Dagbladet.
He says teams will continue to search for the missing person despite the storm.
– There is no plan for us to give up at the moment.
The air ambulance had to return
Bergens Tidende writes that the distress beacon signal will come from a woman in her 40s.
The main rescue center must have received the signal from the emergency beacon transmitter at 15:50.
– The air ambulance was dispatched immediately, but had to turn around due to bad weather in the area, the newspaper writes.
The police have not been in contact with the woman, but they know who she is, as the sender is registered in the woman’s name.
Large-scale action
Groth tells Dagbladet that there are just over 20 snowmobile patrols involved in the search operation.
During the action, they also discovered another hiker, who had entered a cabin.
– The person in question has used the emergency law and has entered a cabin to ensure his own life. The search for the missing woman continues in full force, says the operations manager.
Found behind the open-air bathroom
Shortly before 10 p.m., the police report that the missing woman has been found.
– He’s cold, but he’s in good health. The discovery was made by a Red Cross snowmobile patrol, police write on Twitter.
They also claim that the woman had taken refuge behind a windswept open-air bath. Now they are taking care of her and driving her to safety.
