Two weeks have passed since the robot safely landed on the red planet after a 55 million kilometer space flight.

The robot left the landing site for its first round of testing on Thursday. The just over 33 minute ride was a bit of a round trip, and it went so well that the six-wheeler was back out with the fan on Friday.

NASA engineer Anais Zarafian was able to proudly display the wheel tracks of Mars on Friday.

– I’ve never been so happy to see grooves, and I’ve seen a good part of them. This is an important milestone for the mission, he said.

NASA employees applauded both when the Mars robot landed safely on the red planet and when Perseverance took its first short trip.

Explore the river delta

As soon as system investigations are completed, the robot will travel to an obsolete river delta to collect rocks, which it will bring back to Earth in a decade.

One of the seven scientific instruments on board is the Rimfax georadar, developed in Norway. Rimfax will map the geology below the surface of Mars.
