Jakob Ingebrigtsen thought he had won the European Championship gold in the 1500 meters. Then it became the album. The jury has now upheld Ingebrigtsen’s appeal. This means that Jakob Ingebrigtsen still takes the European Championship gold in the 1500 meters.
This is confirmed by the Dagbladet athletics association.
Ingebrigtsen got into a situation on the first shift where he ended up falling off that list. It is basically not a law. Ingebrigtsen claims, however, that he was pushed outside.
– I passed the list in turn, but I felt that it was a group of Poles who were trying to run towards me. So I don’t expect it to be a problem, Ingebrigtsen told NRK about the situation after the race.
It ended up being a problem for Ingebrigtsen who was ruled out after the race.
– Anchor
Morten Olsen, a communications advisor for the athletics association, told Dagbladet that they had filed a protest against the referee’s decision. so said Gjert Ingebrigtsen.
– We anchored the counter, said Papa Gjert Ingebrigtsen to NRK.
At 23:30 Dagbladet was informed by Olsen that the jury still sitting in a meeting to discuss the appeal. Half an hour later the answer came. Jakob Ingebrigtsen he took the gold of the European Championship anyway.
Unsafety
NRK expert Vebjørn Rodal could not give a sure answer as to whether Ingebrigtsen’s appeal would stand.
– I don’t think we have good photos, so I think it’s hard to say something about it. The first time I saw it live, I didn’t get a good picture. On replay, we didn’t get a better angle. I think it’s very difficult to comment, Rodal tells NRK.
Sporting director Erlend Slokvik understood little about the dishes.
– We have filed a protest to look at the images of the video, so that we can go from there. He didn’t gain anything from it. He was prevented, Slokvik told NRK.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen told NRK that he thought he would go home if the decision was upheld.
– If the decision stands and I lose the gold, I think I’ll go home. I don’t know if I will run tomorrow because the 1500 meters was my main goal, Ingebrigtsen told NRK before anyone knew the answer to the appeal.
Chaotic start
Ingebrigtsen’s father and coach, Gjert, announced before the race that his son would take it easy from the start and would practice asking for victory rather than running away from others from the start.
However, after a calm and chaotic start, with several failures from Ingebrigtsen, the Norwegian took responsibility and took the lead early in the race.
His Polish challenger Marcin Lewandowski lay on his back and got a good pull, while Ingebrigtsen took the lead and ran his race, without going out. It was clear that no one ran to set a good time in the final.
The Pole challenged at the end, but had no chance to overtake Ingebrigtsen, who won with 3.37.56, half a second ahead of Lewandowski. The Spanish Jesús Gomes took the bronze.
In the race, Ingebrigtsen took the time to look at the screen and celebrate the gold. The celebration was short-lived for Ingebrigtsen, who was ruled out after the race.
