The accident is said to have occurred in connection with an emergency response to a truck that caught fire in the Torsbuås tunnel on the E18 in Arendal.
– When the emergency services arrived, they were informed that an ambulance that was on the same mission had crashed, says the operations manager in the Agder police district, Hans Waage.
The accident occurred near the original mission.
Waage says there were four people in the ambulance.
One seriously injured
First, the police reported that the four in the ambulance were injured and that two of them had received serious injuries.
Sørlandet Hospital later stated that only one person was seriously injured and that the person in question was transferred to Oslo University Hospital.
The other three appear unharmed.
Those involved in the accident were three ambulance workers and an emergency doctor.
Prehospital Services Clinic Director Espen Jarle Hansen says the accident affects the entire ambulance community.
– Now we do what we can to take care of our wounded and their families, he says.
He points out that the capacity of the ambulance has been taken care of.
In an accident with a truck
According to the police, the ambulance had an accident with a truck.
The driver of this was taken to the emergency room.
– He appears unharmed, says Operations Manager Waage.
He says it is still too early to say anything about what actually happened.
