SpaceX first managed to make a successful landing with its Starship prototype after a high-altitude test flight on Wednesday.
Minutes later, the SN10 rocket exploded, reports CNBC.
Despite the explosion, the successful landing is described as a major step forward for Space X boss Elon Musk and his long-term goal of being able to transport humans by March.
– The SN10 spacecraft landed just as complete! Musk writes on Twitter from evening to Thursday.
The aim of the test flight was to send the rocket to an altitude of 10 kilometers above the ground and to continue testing the prototype after tests with SN8 and SN9 in December 2020 and February this year.
On both occasions the rockets exploded while trying to land.

This time it was better and the rocket landed at SpaceX’s test facility in Boca Chica in southeastern Texas, near the Mexican border. Then he had been in the elevator for about 6 1/2 minutes, writes the AP news agency.
Minutes after landing, however, flames erupted from the bottom of the rocket, before it exploded. The rocket was launched into the air before falling back to the ground.
The cause of the explosion is unclear and SpaceX has yet to comment on what went wrong.
SpaceX’s plan for Starship is that the rocket can be used both to deploy satellites in orbit around Earth and to transport humans and cargo to the Moon and Mars.
More recently, in early February, the SpaceX SN9 rocket exploded at the end of its test flight. Check out the video here:
