World Cup program to change after massive criticism – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

– It will make it fairer. For sprints, there is one so big problem, but later there will be even more different conditions. The sun will be very strong in the afternoon, Cramer tells NRK.

Loose snow grade and conditions immediately became an issue in the World Cup city.

Emil Iversen rated the trails as the worst he’s been on, while Erik Valnes thought it better to cancel the sprint than to continue in those conditions.

Cramer is fully supported by British national team manager Jostein Vinjerui.

– I said it when we came here today: if it had been the start time at 09.00 every day, it would have been a great championship. At least with leadership in mind, Vinjerui tells NRK.

Hectic gathering activities

On Tuesday morning, the Infront licensee, the International Federation (FIS), the local organizer and the local television licensees will discuss whether to move the opening distances earlier in the day.

Not only does the so-called sugar content make walking difficult and heavy, it also makes it difficult for runners to stay upright on the downs:

It is Infront that has taken the initiative of the measure, and FIS supported the proposal on Tuesday morning.

Now, the various television licensees will consider the case.

– For the competition, it will be better. It is about the sun taking a lot in the snow. There has been a lot of talk about negative degrees at night. The jury and the FIS are considering the use of salt and have closed portions of the trails and have noted that they will close larger parts of the trails, says NRK expert Fredrik Aukland, who himself tested the sugar content on a downhill slope Monday:

At Tuesday’s press conference, several of the Norwegian male sprinters were asked about the significance of a possible move.

But they all agreed that they did not want to use force on something that they could do nothing about.

However, Iversen is aware that descents, and therefore safety, will be more difficult to handle.

– It is open for more accidents when the descents are so difficult and the turns are so loose. I often drive well in corners, but then you have to have something to work with. Here it is only a matter of passing the curves. It will be to find a clue and try not to fall, says Iversen.

It can move many hours.

A final decision on start times is expected later on Tuesday. This is considered a new time (the previous time in parentheses):

Wednesday, February 24:

  • 09.00 (12.30): Cross-country skiing, qualifying, 5-kilometer start, freestyle, women.
  • 10.30 (14.30): Cross-country skiing, men’s classification, 10-kilometer interval start, freestyle, men’s.

Thursday, February 25:

  • 09.00 (12.45): Cross-country skiing, prologues, sprints, classic technique.
  • 11.30 (15.15): Cross-country skiing, finals, sprinting, classic technique.

– It is good that you consider this, because the snow conditions will be better at the beginning of the day. The later, the more the snow releases. Then there will be no level playing field, says Cramer.
