Snowplow driver Kent Bjørnar Einvoll had been closing the barrier at Storekorsnes and was back when the landslide occurred.
– On the way back, everything turns white. I did not realize then and there that there were landslides. When the snow settled and I kept driving, I came across the wall of a huge mass of snow that was not possible to cross.
He ended up having to stop the car and start running.
– I put on the headlamp, climbed the avalanche and ran. He was constantly looking for a way out in case of new landslides. I had a taste of blood in my mouth when I passed safely.

200 isolated people
The landslides are 140 and 155 meters wide, respectively.
Fylkesvei 8830 between Storekorsnes and Mikkelsby is closed. 200 people are isolated in the areas by the Skillefjord, which is a fjord lateral to the Altafjord.
The municipality of Alta announces on Sunday afternoon that on Sunday it will not use boat transport for isolated people. The reason is the bad weather conditions.
The municipality of Alta announces that the road will not open before Thursday, February 25, but that it is considered continuously.
“We have mapped who needs food or medicine and will follow up,” says Alta Councilor Bjørn Atle Hansen.
So far no injuries or damage to buildings have been reported. The landslide that occurred on Saturday night washed away the safety barrier, writes Altaposten.
Live near the landslide zone
Beate Døvik Lauritzen lives in Skillefjordnes, not far from the area where the landslide took place on Sunday morning.
– I feel safe here alive. The house I live in is located in such a way that it does not affect us directly. At the same time, it’s a bit stressful to think that we’re completely trapped, he says.
Great landslides
Trond Jøran Nilsen is a landslide expert in the county municipalities of Troms and Finnmark. It confirms that the landslides that took place in Skillefjord are of a great kind.
– At the top, the avalanche was six meters high. Along the way, the landslide has washed away a power pole. So far they have electricity and, as far as I know, representatives from Alta’s energy team have been in for an inspection, he says.
Nilsen says it may be several days before the road reopens.
– The wind will increase, which means that it is not justifiable to send people. With the weather forecast available now, we see that there will be a lot of wind towards Tuesday. In the worst case, we may not be able to open the road until Wednesday, says Nilsen.
