TIX embarrassed critics during the final of the Norwegian MGP. He himself says that victory has humiliated him.
Andreas “TIX” Haukeland won the gold duel against KEiiNO in the final of the Melodi Grand Prix 2021. This is how he will represent Norway at the international Eurovision final in Rotterdam at the end of May with the song “Fallen Angel”.
For VG, TIX says victory makes him humble. He says he has a “huge” fear for Eurovision and feels the pressure that competition brings.
– I want to represent Norway in a respectful way. I’m terrified, I’m terrified For once, you’ve made TIX-ern humble, he says the Norwegian people voted him the winner.
He believes that 2021 offered the best final contributions in about ten years, it also helps to keep it well planted in the ground, according to himself.

About an hour after it became clear that he beat former Eurovision contestant KEiiNO, he still hasn’t fully realized that he’s won and what that means.
– I haven’t realized the extent of this. It feels unreal, he tells VG.
The reason for this is not because Pop has won, but because “it is the first time in a year” that it experiences such “confirmation from the people.”

TIX originally participated with a Norwegian version of the song called “Out of the Dark”.
For the final, he translated it into English with the help of his brother Andreas Haukeland and Emelie Hollow. Also in the Eurovision finale, the song will be heard in English, he says.
He himself had thought that it was KEiiNO who would win the final and had in fact bet money. He was supposed to cheer them on in the final, but now it was the other way around. Now it is he who represents Norway.
– It’s not about me, it’s about the Norwegians. It’s like being prime minister, you have to represent a whole country. I feel part of a great game.
– I felt like the ugly duckling
It was a tearful TIX who delivered the victory speech after his name was announced as the winner of the gold duel.
– Can I say something? Norway … I have felt like the ugly duckling for a long time. Both in the music industry and in growth. It turns out that one day the duckling turns into a swan, he said and added:
– I hope that all the ugly ducklings at home understand that one day everyone will see them as swans.
His brother, Mathias Haukeland, also shed tears when he was interviewed by video from his home in the living room.
– I’m so proud, I’m so proud. It’s fantastic.
TIX appeared with a jewel with a large large cube with a number one, a reference to reviewers who has largely rewarded his music with low dice rolls.
Although the artist’s contribution “Out of the Dark” has performed well on the Spotify charts, it was criticized by several critics. Among other things, he received a dice roll of 1 from Dagbladet and NRK, and 2 from the VG critic.
The two golden duelists beat Blåsemafian feat. Hazel and rocker Jorn in the golden final. These four had passed earlier in the night from the group of twelve finalists.
Voice problems

– Let it be said, there are those who have had some problems with that vote because we have had an extreme commitment with more than 1.5 million votes. We have a very valid result, said presenter Ronny Brede Aase live on the voting problem.
TIX translated the song from Norwegian to English from semi-final to final. When asked by host Kåre Magnus Bergh if it gave him extra nerves, he said:

During the performance, he encouraged people who are having a hard time.
– Dear Norway, while I am standing here, there is one thing I want to say: remember that there is always a way out of the dark. Either it goes well or it passes, said the artist from the stage before singing again.
KEiiNO, who came in second, has been to the international final before, where they garnered a large number of votes from the audience.
– It is impossible to describe. When you get there, it is an absolutely wonderful place where people from all over the world come together through a common joy of music. It’s a great party, said Alexandra Rotan before the match against TIX.

In a text message to VG on Saturday night, KEiiNO comments on the final defeat:
– We are incredibly disappointed. We really felt we had the song and the show that would take us home to Eurovision victory. At the same time, we congratulate TIX on the victory, they write.
On Instagram, the band have posted a post thanking everyone who voted for them, but with a bit of the voice issues that NRK experienced during the finale.
