The first funeral after the landslide was held in Gjerdrum on Thursday.
Eirik Grønolen, 31, grew up in Beitostølen in Øystre Slidre municipality, and the funeral ceremony took place in Jeløy Chapel.
In connection with the funeral, the family shared a few words of memory and photos with the press.
Eirik Grønolen died in the avalanche: – Incredibly sad
“Huge care”
“Our dear Eirik was suddenly taken from us in the avalanche in Gjerdrum on December 30, 2020. We will miss a loving son, an only brother, a loving partner, a warm relative, a unique friend and an inspiring person. It meant a lot to many and has left deep marks. “
Grønolen founded Dunderverk together with a business partner in Lillestrøm in 2014. The company provided IT solutions for the business community, and the 31-year-old collaborated with sports profiles such as mountaineers Aksel Lund Svindal and Henrik Kristoffersen.
He was also Chairman of the Board of the company Yoneda AS, which he led together with Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud.
“You took great care of those around you and you were very kind. He was a spreader of joy and easily made new friends. You were creative and inspiring, and there were many who looked up to you. You had confidence in yourself and you dared to dream big. You had an entrepreneurial heart from a young age and it continued to grow. You were creative and never allowed yourself to be limited, ”the family writes.
Characterized by the landslide accident
“Many will miss you deeply and you will leave a great void. We find comfort in all the good experiences and memories we have. No one can take us away!”
Thanks to the rescue team
Grønolen died when his house was taken over by the avalanche. He was the first to be found dead, on January 1.
In the word of remembrance, the family thanks everyone involved in working around the disaster that occurred in Gjerdrum.
“We want to thank you for all the attention that we have received from family and friends, far and near in this difficult time. Thanks to all the rescue teams who have been there day and night, to the crisis teams, the priests, the police, the Civil Defense, the Armed Forces, the Red Cross, Animal Welfare, Clarion Hotel Gardermoen, Mayor Anders Østensen, the Royal Family and other volunteers. Thanks to Omsorg Jessheim who reflects the enormous warmth and care of the people. “
In remembrance, the family also sends a special thank you to the veterinarian Steffan Feterik from the Home Veterinarian, who took care of Grønolen and the living dog, Milli.
He was rescued from the landslide the night before New Year’s Day, nearly two days after the landslide.
“All the care and consideration has been overwhelming,” the family wrote in the memoirs.
Casper Ruud lost a friend in the avalanche
– Our deepest compassion
Ten people were reported missing after the landslide. Of these, seven have been found dead, while three remain missing.
The search tentatively ended last week after Tuesday’s operation changed its status from a rescue operation to a search for the dead. Police are now planning further searches of the landslide area next Monday, police wrote in a press release Wednesday.
These have died or have disappeared after the landslide.
The family puts an end to the word of remembrance by sending their condolences to the other relatives who have lost theirs in the avalanche and strongly encourages the continued search for the three people who remain missing.
Finally, we want to send our condolences to the other family members who have lost theirs. We understand the bottomless pain and sadness you experience. We strongly recommend that you continue to search for those who are still missing. We know how painful it is to wait and how important a clarification is. “
