– As an immigrant in this country, I would like to say a few words to my compatriots and friends around the world about the events of the last few days.

Here’s how former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger kicks off a video he posted on YouTube on Sunday.

– I am very aware of Crystal Night. It was a night of vandalism against Jews in 1938 of the Nazi version of “Proud boys”, he says and continues:

– Wednesday was Crystal Night here in the United States. The broken glass was the windows of Congress. But the mob didn’t just break the windows. We took shattered ideas for granted. They didn’t just break down the doors of the building that houses American democracy. They stepped on the principles on which this country is based, he says.

President Trump has been in a tough spot after the US Congress was stormed earlier this week as members of Congress worked to approve the election result.

Trump is accused of inciting the storm and Democrats threaten him with a higher court.

It opens on childhood

In addition, Schwarzenegger says that he grew up in a country surrounded by men who drank the guilt after participating in the worst regime in history.

– I have never shared it so publicly because it is a painful memory, but my father could come home drunk, one or two days a week and yell and hit us and scare my mother. I did not hold him fully responsible because the neighbor did the same with his family, the next door neighbor did the same again. It was painful for what they saw and did, and it started with lies and bigotry.

In addition, the former governor says that he himself has seen how things can get out of control and that we must be aware of the consequences of selfishness and cynicism.

– President Trump tried to reverse the election result, a fair election. He sought a coup by deceiving people with lies. My father and our neighbors were also duped by those lies, says Schwarzenegger, calling President Trump a failure and the worst president in history.

This is not the first time that Schwarzenegger has come into conflict with Trump. Despite belonging to the same party, Schwarzenegger has criticized Trump on several occasions.

He says that the party’s comrades lack a backbone

Schwarzenegger also gets close to his own party mates in the video. He says that several of the members of his own party lack backbones.

– They are accomplices, he says about the incident in Congress on Wednesday.

– What we need now are civil servants who gain more than their own power and their own party, says Schwarzenegger.

Towards the end of the video, he asks everyone to join him in greeting incoming President Joe Biden.

– We wish you great success as president. If it is successful, we will succeed as a nation. We support you with all our heart.
