Manchester United confirm in a press release that Darren Fletcher joins Mike Phelan, Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s coaching staff.
Fletcher, who has been at United for 20 years as a player, has been coach of the U-16 team since October.
– Darren has United’s DNA channels over the years and knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player, says Solskjær of his new assistant.
– He is at the beginning of his coaching career and all his experience both on and off the field, as well as his winning mentality, commitment and hard work, will be a brilliant addition to the support staff.
Fletcher played 340 games for United’s first team and won the Premier League (five times), the FA Cup (once), the League Cup (twice), the Champions League (once) and the World Cup. for club teams (one time).
– I am delighted to return to the club as coach of the first team. It is an exciting time for this young team and I look forward to taking the next steps in my coaching career with Ole and his support team, says Fletcher.
The club also confirms that Robin Sadler has joined as head of rehabilitation and physiotherapy. He comes from work as a head physical therapist in Derby.
