Tour de Ski: – Karlsson reacts to criticism

Frida Karlsson took another place on the podium when she finished third during the start of the hunt on the third stage of the Tour de Ski on Sunday.

Despite the good performance, several criticized how the 21-year-old prepared the race and thought that Karlsson chose the wrong strategy.

– Everything I do, I do it wrong, Karlsson told Expressen when the Swedish newspaper confronted her with criticism.

After third place, SVT expert Anders Blomquist, among others, thought Karlsson took too many leads during the race. Blomquist thinks he could benefit from leaving others in the lead.

– I thought Frida was gone a lot. There are strong runners behind her that are hard to pull off. Either he must feel strong, or I thought he should let the others go a bit, said expert commentator Blomquist during the race.

– I understand you wanted to question the opponents, but I thought you could let the Americans go. It could have saved energy if it was a little calmer, said SVT expert Johanna Ojala after the race.

Respond to criticism

Karlsson believes she chose the right tactics herself during Sunday’s race while pointing the finger at critics.

– I am not dissatisfied with my tactics today. I don’t think we would have gained the same advantage over the rest of the field if I had let the others go and let them go. I thought I was doing the right thing today, says Karlsson and continues:

– There are many experts in TV sofas, but I probably know my body better and what my strengths are. So I think the people I’m going to talk to about tactics are me and my coaches, he told Expressen.

duel

At the start of Sunday’s hunt, a trio formed early up front with Karlsson and Americans Rosie Brennan and Jessica Diggins. In the final round, Diggins clearly looked fresher, and after the last measurement before the finish line, she ran away from Brennan and Karlsson, who struggled to keep up.

The 29-year-old did everything she had towards the end to gain seconds on the recap and was left completely empty after going for the win.

Brennan was in second place, 5.6 seconds behind his teammate, while Karlsson had to settle for third place. It was hit for 10.7 seconds.

The American leads in the summary ahead of Brennan by five seconds, while Karlsson remains in third place ten seconds behind Diggins.

Thus, the close battle in the Tour de Ski remains between the United States and Sweden.
