At five in the morning on Wednesday, Stein Teppen (53) was notified of a landslide in Gjerdrum.
– It was a dramatic message to wake up to. There was a landslide, and that there were probably several houses in the landslide, he tells TV 2.
Teppen works for the Norwegian Red Cross as a regional leader in the East. He was one of many who drove an ambulance and helped with the evacuation on Wednesday.
In no time, they mobilized about 20 emergency ambulances and 90 crews on Wednesday.

Even though Teppen has been in bad weather before, even when he was involved in moving to Utøya in 2011, he says such scenarios are difficult to plan.
– The basic stock is there, and the basic structure in cooperation between the other emergency services is important when you are in a confusing situation.
Evacuated nursing home
So far 10 people have not been counted. The carpet says it is a difficult situation.
– Of course we think it’s difficult. We think of the disappeared, the relatives and those who had to evacuate in a hurry at night, without understanding what happened.
Among other things, the carpet helped evacuate the nursing home in Gjerdrum. As residents were being evacuated, a new landslide occurred on the slope outside the house.
– We also live it as something dramatic. It is human to be afraid.
Unresolved situation
Due to the danger of new landslides, searches are conducted from the air over the landslide area. The rug says the Red Cross search and rescue work degraded a bit Wednesday night.
– We contribute first of all with the evacuation of those who were here. The search is too dangerous to get into the ground, so we can’t contribute anything now. But all crews are ready to contribute.
It is difficult and very desperate for him not to be able to do his job fully, but he boasts that the emergency services are working hard with what they can to register the masses.
The biggest landslide of recent times
The landslide in Gjerdrum continued until Wednesday night. It is described as the largest landslide in recent times.
When emergency services carried out their last update Thursday night, they said the search continues through the night without diminishing force.
Task leader Dag André Sylju stated in a press release Thursday morning that the search has been in full swing overnight.
There will be resources in the air, because the observations we make about the landslide area are valuable in future work, said police chief Håkon Berg.
Ten people are still in the missing status and police believe they are in the area of the landslide. Despite the fact that almost two days have passed since the landslide, emergency services describe it as a rescue operation.
– If you have access to water and oxygen, you can survive for a long time in different constructions, says Harald Wisløff on Norwegian People’s Aid to TV 2.
