– We have received confirmation of 11 new cases of infection, these are close contacts of previously known cases of infection, and this was expected.
Hamarøy Municipality Mayor Britt Kristoffersen tells NRK.
On Tuesday night, the municipality itself reports that the total number of infections rose to 18 since Christmas Eve. In other words, the small municipality has an extensive infection outbreak.
According to the mayor, the municipality has decent control over close contacts, but now they further strengthen the trail of infection.
– The new ones who have been confirmed infected are already in quarantine since they were close contacts of those who had been previously infected. Now that they are being told to isolate themselves, there will also be a trail of infection around their close contacts.
Closed the emergency room
On Christmas Day, the emergency room in Hamarøy was closed after a corona infection was discovered in the office.
Everyone who had been in the office since December 14 was asked to get in touch to get tested.
Before Tuesday, there were seven cases in total. Now the number has increased to 18. Kristoffersen says that is a lot for a small municipality.
– We are a small municipality with 2700 inhabitants, and then there is a fairly large number with 18 cases. But after the first seven cases, we had 102 quarantined, and then we hoped there would be more.
– Stay at home
The mayor says that tomorrow there will be more measures to get rid of the contagion figures.
– Previously we have given recommendations and incentives in line with the national councils, but now that we have 18 cases, we are at a new level. Residents will learn more about this on Wednesday.
Among the advice in the press release to the municipality, it says, among other things, that the population should stay home, limit the number of close contacts and that they should be tested if they experience symptoms.
He also says “not be in a public place”, but the mayor denies that they want to prevent people from visiting public places.
– No, this is a bit complicated and it is not correct. What we mean is that people shouldn’t visit crowded places unnecessarily.
There should be no employees in the doctor’s office or health personnel who are among those infected.
– It is among the general population that the test has been carried out, where we have found the new cases.
– Can you say something about the condition, are they sick?
– No, I don’t have much information on that. They are followed by the municipal health service, concludes Kristoffersen.
