The response has not been lacking since the Gothenburg-based company Cyan released the first images of a very attractive interpretation of the Volvo P1800.
Cyan has been clear that they want to make a modern version of the classic P1800, with much of the mechanical and analog character.
Based on the official photos, there is no doubt that the newcomer has a lot in common with the origins of the 60s. This is not so strange either, since the company bases the entire car on an original P1800. More on that later.
Now at Broom we have spoken to Cyan Racing in Sweden, to find out more about the response the car has received around the world recently.
– Awesome!
– Since we introduced the car, the response has been overwhelming! The world’s media has covered it, and the car was recently named “Retro Hero of the Year” by Top Gear. We are also experiencing a huge increase in the number of inquiries so this is a lot of fun, Johan Meissner at Cyan Racing tells Broom.
Johan adds that Cyan is in the process of building the first two cars for customers.
It remains to be seen exactly when the first deliveries to customers will be made. But we have the capacity to make around 10 cars a year.

12 months build time
As we have mentioned, the P1800 Cyan is based on a completely original car, where customers are happy to provide the “base”, that is, the original car, themselves.
So Cyan Racing does extensive work, with everything from design floors, engine and chassis, outlined very briefly.
The build time per car is approximately 12 months, all depending on the wishes and specifications of the customers.
It is common to all cars, among other things, a new chassis and not least the engine and transmission. Under the hood, the Cyan places a powerful 420 hp, 455 Nm 2-liter gasoline turbo. The forces are sent directly to the rear wheels, via a 5-speed manual transmission.
The suspension is developed by Cyan himself, with extensive use of lightweight materials. The car weighs no more than 990 kg, so here there should be no doubt that this will be a playful and sporty version of the classic.

Price of 4.5 million
With a production of just 10 cars a year, it goes without saying that the P1800 Cyan remains an exclusive case. It is also reflected in the grade in the price.
– Of course we could have built an electric Volvo P1800 and filled it with the latest technology, comfort and luxury. But that was not what we wanted to do.
It starts at $ 500,000, which is equivalent to almost 4.5 million crowns. Plus, there’s the cost of a “donor car,” as well as the taxes.
In other words, the price of a finished car will quickly exceed five million crowns. But despite the price, Cyan can thus confirm that interest in the newcomer is great and that production is in full swing.
