Fear of wide football – has not made “a new Pellegrino” disappear: – It is critical

Kristiansund’s top scorer, Amahl Pellegrino, replaced goals in the 4th division at age 21. He and NFF are concerned that a similar player may be missing this year.

– You never know, but I don’t expect it, Pellegrino tells NTB.

The Kristiansund forward has scored 25 goals in 27 games since the start this season. On two occasions he has been substituted.

But it has been a motley path to the top for the 30-year-old. At age 21, Pellegrino played for Drammen FK in the fourth division. According to fotball.no, the dangerous forward scored 16 goals in 14 games, but Pellegrino himself has his own numbers: 28 goals in 12 games.

This year, American football has fallen victim to restrictions as a result of the corona pandemic. There has been no match activity in soccer for 3rd division and men’s teams and 2nd division and women’s teams. Players who have played on these teams and are 20 years or older have missed an entire soccer season and the opportunity to become better soccer players.

Turn fast

That in 2011 would have meant a season without football for Pellegrino. He believes 2020 may have ruined the potential of some potential star players.

– That’s the dangerous thing. There may be people who have entered 2020 and thought that it is their last chance, that it is now or never. Then comes the crown, and they are not allowed to play football for a year. So it’s easy to give up, Pellegrino tells NTB.

After the goal-packed season in 2011 for Pellegrino, the journey continued to Bærum in the 1st division.

– Soccer becomes fast. One year you play in the 4th division, the next year you play in the adecoligaen. Big jump, he says.

– Critical

Alf Hansen is Director of Development and Activity for the Norwegian Football Association (NFF). Share Pellegrino’s thoughts on this year’s season.

– It’s critic. It is a concern that we have to lose players. That those who are at these levels will lose the spark. It is a concern that we share in our organization about what will happen in the future, Hansen tells NTB.

This fall the first phase of grassroots football began in much of the country. This means that you can train with contact, but this has been stopped later in several places, including Oslo, because the pressure of the infection has been too high.

– Despite the tough framework you have now, we hope you will find alternative training methods, so you keep your motivation and skills the same, says Hansen.

– never too late

After three seasons in Bærum, Pellegrino ended up in Lillestrøm. There he was not very successful, but he did more to balance himself in Mjøndalen, where most of the games were in the 1st division.

At Strømsgodset, it didn’t quite work out for two seasons before he really turned to the right in Kristiansund, which he signed in August 2019. There he finds himself with an impressive 33 goals in 39 games in the Eliteserien. The top scorer has the following advice for all footballers who have gone a season without matches:

– It is never too late. You don’t have to be 18 to become the best in the world or achieve your dream of becoming a professional footballer. I hope people think that the love you have for soccer should be the driving force to put in those hours and train on your own.

– If I had been in such a situation, my main objective would have been to train in the physical. That was what I struggled with the most at the time. He had thought, “Okay, a year to build even more muscle. It should be the main point guard that I will train that year. When I come back in 2021, there will be a stronger version of Pellegrino ”, if you understand what I mean.
