Has no credibility on refugees – VG

KrF leader and Children’s Minister Kjell Ingolf Ropstad strongly counterattacks FRP deputy leader Sylvi Listhaug in the duel to prioritize Christians when Norway selects refugee quota.

– It is precisely KrF who has fought hard for Norway to accept refugees. FRP didn’t want a single one, Ropstad tells VG.

Two days after the two parties, as well as the Conservatives and Liberals, reached a budget agreement, the wave remains high on how the agreement on the prioritization of quota refugees should be interpreted.

Incomprehensible

On Thursday morning, Listhaug told VG that “there is no doubt that the government is now committed to prioritizing persecuted Christians when choosing refugees with quotas.”

“That KrF and the Church of Norway oppose giving priority to persecuted Christians is completely incomprehensible,” he also said.

I don’t help nobody

Kjell Ingolf Ropstad reacts strongly to the latter:

– It is completely incomprehensible that Frp claims that KrF will not accept persecuted Christians, he says.

– If the FRP had gotten what they wanted, they would not have helped a single Christian refugee who is persecuted for his faith. Fortunately, they lost that battle, adds the KrF leader.

Ask FRP to change policy

Ropstad says they are satisfied with the final text of the written budget agreement, which states that “Also persecuted Christians, Ahmadiyya and Yezidi refugees should be prioritized as a group and individuals when withdrawing transferred refugees».

– KrF fully shares the commitment to persecuted Christians. We want Norway to be a safe haven for people persecuted for their faith, Christians and others alike. If the FRP is really concerned about persecuted Christians, they should change the policy and want to accept the refugee quota. Only then would they have credibility in this case, he adds.

Haunted by his faith

– Is Listhaug right when he says that the government is committed to prioritizing persecuted Christians?

– Christians want to be one of the religiously persecuted groups that Norway informs the UN that we want to lead. Also, there are Jesuits and Ahmadis. The UN is responsible for the selection. KrF believes that the solution we have agreed to is a good one and emphasizes the need to provide protection to people who are persecuted for their faith, says Ropstad.
