– Fy f …, I thought. Swedish mountaineers ended up in the same situation last weekend. Then I suffered with them and now I suffer with the Norwegians. A competition without Norwegian athletes is not the same in skiing. Super sad, Svahn concludes to NRK.
The national team coach, Eirik Myhr Nossum, tested positive for the crown for the first time and had to wait for a response after test number two.
It turned out to be negative.
This means that Norwegian athletes will compete in the World Cup in Ruka, and now they can hit the track and prepare for the first race on Friday.

Major consequences
In the hours before the response to the second crown test came, there was uncertainty as to whether the Norwegian athletes would lose the World Cup. It would be a crisis, according to the Swedish ski resort.
– Skiing without Norway is like Soccer Sweden without Zlatan and basketball without Michael Jordan. It will not be the same, it is at that level. It’s like missing a small piece of skiing, says Svahn.
– What do you think is the right thing to do, if they go home?
– I have no knowledge of what is the smartest thing to do. But that’s probably the consequence that will happen, as we saw with the Swedes last weekend. We must somehow make sure that those who test negative can compete. I’m afraid it won’t, says Svahn.
Will help Norway
The director of the Swedish national cross-country ski team, Anders Byström, says that Swedes are attracted to Norwegians. They offer to help.
– I heard that it may be the case that leaders and lubricators do not shut up, but that the runners do shut up. So I think we can help in solidarity, Byström tells NRK, continuing:
– We talked about that. The lubrication team has talked about it and then we’ll see if it gets serious, he says.
Cross-country skier Ebba Andersson believes the Swedes are right to help the Norwegians.
– I think it would be fair and reasonable to help them. Had it been the opposite, we would have appreciated it too, cross-country skier Ebba Andersson tells NRK.
The biggest competitor
Frida Karlsson is excited to know if the Norwegians will be calm to start on Friday morning. Last week there was a heated discussion between the Norwegian and Swedish riders about who will be the best this season. Both Svahn, Karlsson and Andersson looked forward to the upcoming duel.
– I really hope we can compete against them. You want to meet the best, Karlssen tells NRK.
– It would have been very boring if they didn’t start. It is the leading nation. You want all the best to start. So I hope they handle this well and can be part of the start, says Andersson.
Cross-country skiers feel safe in Finland, despite the infection in the Norwegian team.
– Will you feel unsafe to compete against them if they have a positive test in the team?
– No, I can’t believe that. What we do is outdoor sports, and as long as none of the athletes are positive, it should be fine. But there’s nothing I think about, Andersson concludes.
