Joe Biden – Will Say Yes to Trump

[ad_1]

NEW YORK / OSLO (Dagbladet): President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris take control of the White House on January 20. Trump still refuses to acknowledge defeat. He claims that Biden won as a result of extensive electoral fraud, although he has not produced any documentation.

At the same time, Trump finally accepted the formal transition process. Soon, among other things, Biden will start receiving the daily intelligence report, which the president also receives. Biden’s people will also receive briefing from Trump’s crown team on the pandemic and plans to distribute upcoming vaccines.

– No disapproval

– So I don’t think we are going to delay payments as much as we thought before. There are many immediate discussions and I must say that the contact so far has been sincere. So far there has been no disapproval, and I don’t expect that to be the case, Biden himself said in an interview with NBC News on Tuesday night.

The war of words between Biden and Trump is probably unparalleled in modern American history. Biden has not held back on his claims that Trump is, among other things, a racist and a liar. Trump, for his part, described Biden as a puppet of the extreme forces of the US left and claimed that the former vice president has poor cognitive abilities.

Despite all the harsh words between Biden and Trump, Biden also makes it clear that he would agree to meet with Trump.

– Of course I would, if you asked me, says Biden during a brief meeting with the press on Tuesday.

Opens for Trump supporters

At the same time, Biden denies that people can expect his presidency to be a continuation of the Obama presidency.

“We are facing a completely different world than we were facing in the Obama-Biden administration,” Biden told NBC News.

At the same time, he made clear that he wants his administration to represent the entire Democratic Party and the entire population of the United States. Biden says he’s even considering naming Republicans who voted for Trump.

– I want this country to be united, says Biden.

Experienced names

Although Trump has so far refused to concede defeat, Biden has been too busy planning the inauguration. Several names from the administration came forward on Tuesday.

Those who are ready have the mark of having walked the halls of Washington for a long time. It was not unexpected.

The American researcher Anders Romarheim from the Department of Defense Studies (IFS) describes the selected ones mainly as safe options.

– And safe options are sometimes gray and boring, but in the world, both we and the United States need stability and predictability, especially in foreign policy, says Romarheim.

He goes on to say that these are the outlines of a very recognizable traditional American government. He believes that the elections so far represent routine, competition and representativeness.

– Biden’s preliminary candidates would not vaguely attract attention as usual. If we hadn’t had four years with Trump, you’d probably think “well, these will have a shot,” but now they have a kind of savior background, says Romarheim.

He has occasionally wondered if “there were any adults at home” in American foreign policy.

– Now there will be some adults at home again, but it is clear that there will be a competition gap. While some are likely to return, there are probably many good diplomats who have found something else to do, says Romarheim.
