The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a series of danger warnings to prepare Trøndelag and Westerners for possible chaos.
The front stretching over southern Norway has already snowed parts of Møre and Romsdal and the southwest coast of Trøndelag on Wednesday night.
And there will be more, warns on-call meteorologist Lars Andreas Selberg at the Meteorological Institute.
– I have observed on the webcam that it is snowing all the way in the lowlands of Møre og Romsdal and in Nordfjord. You can expect 20 to 40 centimeters locally, up to 0 to 200 meters above sea level. There may be more in the mountains, says Selberg.
– It doesn’t take long before there can be chaos.
There have been no flights in or out of Hovden Airport in More og Romsdal since 15/16 this afternoon, Avinor confirms to VG.
– There is poor visibility and a lot of snow, says the manager of the Svein-Arne Vik airport in Avinor.
Because no planes will be landing tonight, there will be no early departures tomorrow either, he notes.

– You can get white rainfall to the bottom in central Bergen
When VG talks to the meteorologist, he just sent a snow warning in western Norway south of Stadt. Because when the front moves south on Wednesday night and early Thursday, the snow line will drop considerably.
Then the people of Bergen will not escape either.
– You may be able to get white precipitation up to the center of Bergen, says the meteorologist.
Shoe for conditions, is your advice. Don’t drive without studded tires.
– If there are 40 centimeters, vulnerable infrastructure may be affected locally, as a result of heavy snowfall. One can and does get tough driving conditions locally.
The Møre og Romsdal police district has already reported a number of road accidents as a result of slippery roads. Among other things, a truck went off the road on the E136 at Flatmark.
Otherwise, the snow forecast shows that:
- In western Norway, south of Stadt, snowfalls of between 10 and 20 centimeters can occur
- In Nordfjord it can measure between 20 and 40 cm
- In Rogaland it will probably snow even more
– It can pass over its banks
Then it was the building climate, then. It comes on Thursday, mostly in the form of snow and sleet. Selberg emphasizes that there will be large local variations in the quantities that come in.
The orange precipitation warning was sent on Wednesday morning, for Hordaland and Sogn. Here, between 90 and 60 millimeters are expected in twelve hours.
In Nord-Rogaland and Fjordane, a yellow precipitation hazard warning has been issued.
– It will lead to surface waters and river beds that can cross its banks. From what I’ve seen, it’s already flooding several places. People should insure their boats, but it is mainly due to the strong wind that is expected, says the meteorologist.
Emergency services are asking people in western Norway to stay home on Wednesday night. Several roads are either closed or in danger of closing due to the storm, NTB reports.
BUS: Bus overturned on E6 between Oppdal and Fagerhaug.
– Roads may be closed on short notice.
In addition to a precipitation and snow warning, a yellow warning was sent for strong gusts of wind, up to 33 to 37 meters per second early Thursday morning.
Then there is a temporary decrease on Thursday morning, before low polar pressure hits the coast of Møre og Romsdal.
– Then we have a strong increase in wind along the coast, again with gusts of up to 33-37 meters per second. Therefore we have sent a yellow warning for Møre og Romsdal and western Norway south of Stadt.
Not only that; The Norwegian Meteorological Institute also warns of snowdrifts in the mountains on Thursday and Friday, across southern Norway. Snowdrifts are snow that in strong winds swirls from the ground in such large quantities that visibility is reduced.
– What I call presence. Snowdrifts can lead to convoy driving and roads can be closed on short notice, Selberg explains.
– And yes, we have a yellow snow hazard warning in North Troms and the coastal and fjord areas in West Finnmark, he adds.
